WELCOME

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
In September 2007 Belgrade will host the 4th
European Congress of the European Federation for Colposcopy (EFC).
It is my great pleasure and honour, as President of the Society, to
invite you to this important Pan European meeting. It will be an
outstanding opportunity to learn about new developments in our
field, to meet old colleagues and to make new friends.
The Organizing Committee under the Chairmanship
of Vesna Kesic, our hosts in Belgrade, has done a great job and the
preparations are well under way. The Scientific Committee, under the
chairmanship of our President Elect, Santiago Dexeus, with the help
of our former President, Joe Jordan, as well as many other friends
who kindly responded with suggestions, and whom we acknowledge with
gratitude, have put together an attractive program of lectures,
debates, oral and poster presentations.
Every 3 years our EFC meeting has attracted an
even larger number of participants from all over Europe and the
world. I am convinced that this will be no exception. Belgrade, with
its long history and culture, is an extremely attractive location
and will provide the ideal forum for scientific exchange across
borders of Western and Eastern European countries.
As President of the EFC, I welcome all of you
to our Congress and look forward to an exciting week in Belgrade.
Professor E. Diakomanolis
President of the European Federation
for
Colposcopy

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the
Congress of the European Society for Colposcopy and Cervical
Pathology (EFC), it is my pleasure to invite you to the Congress,
which will be held from September 20-22, 2007 in Belgrade, Serbia.
The past three years have seen progressive
changes in our approach to diseases of the female lower genital
tract. Vaccines against common HPV types are nearing commercial
availability, and all clinicians will need to understand their
promise and limitations. Basic science has progressed, with new
insights into the utility of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers,
immunology and chemoprevention. Maturing experience with new
screening guidelines has led to better understanding and more
informed criticism. Finally, the Society has developed the
guidelines for Quality Assurance in Cervical Cancer Screening as
well as Concensus Guidelines for Management of CIN. This Congress is
a great opportunity for all European gynecologists to learn the
latest information about our field, share their ideas, discuss the
varouis problems and work together in a stimulating forum.
A great deal of thought went into formulating
not only a stimulating scientific program, but also the preparation
of most enjoyable social program, which will give participants and
their partners the opportunity to experience Serbian culture and its
wonderful scenery.
We are looking forward to your participation in
EFC 2007 and to welcoming you in Belgrade.
